Traditional Buttermilk Lemon Pound Cake



  • 1 cup shortening
  • ½ cup butter or margarine
  • 2 ½ cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 ½ cups plain flour (not self rising)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon lemon flavoring or extract
